How to Use a McAfee Shredder to Uninstall a Program

The article describes the procedure of using McAfee Shredder to remove an unwanted program. McAfee Shredder comes pre-integrated into McAfee Security Center, the antivirus console. It helps securely expunge superfluous programs and files that are accumulated on your drive after temporary deletion or during consistent use.

Instructions:

Back up your hard drive data to an external media or use online data backup utility before performing shredding. It will help save critical data loss in the event of a wrongly deleted file, folder etc.

If you want to erase certain files from Windows Explorer, use this method. To open Windows Explorer, right click on the Start button and choose Explore from the dropdown options. Alternatively, you can press the Windows key and E key together on the keyboard to bring up Windows Explorer.

Choose the desired files or folders, right click on your selection and then navigate to the Send To option to McAfee Shredder. In the same fashion, let the shredding procedure begin and finish.

Additional Tips:

McAfee Shredder also lets you customize your shred settings. These include specifying the total processes required to delete a file(s), checking the hard drive for errors prior to shredding, displaying an alert message before shredding, adding the McAfee Shredder to the Send To menu, and putting a McAfee Shredder icon on the Desktop. To customize these settings, click on Shredder under Tools in the McAfee Security Center. Click on the Properties button and follow the instructions.
